EEC Lincolne Scott (formerly known as EEC WSP) was appointed as a local engineer to provide the full scope of civil and structural design services from design development up to tender stage for the new construction of a 22 story hospital and clinic building with a 4 level underground parking garage located on New Petchburi Road, Bangkok.

The master planning and concept design was provided by HGA architects and engineers. The gross floor area was approximately 60,000 sq.m. and comprise of up to 250 inpatient rooms, emergency wards/rooms, laboratory, surgery facilities and hospital pharmacy.

Key features of structural design were lateral force- resisting system with both performance-based and cost effective, and vibration sensitive bays include patient rooms, laboratories and operating rooms.

The main structural system consists of:
               • Piled-Raft foundation
               • Diaphragm wall for deep excavation
               • Dual system of special reinforced concrete shear walls and special reinforced concrete moment frames
               • Two-way flat slab with drop panels (as the purpose of having a higher flexibility of floor function)

In addition, the vibration analysis of typical patient floor structure was carefully performed to determine anticipated vibrational response to footfall induced vibration with respect to patient comfort, hospital operations, and sensitive equipment such as high- powered microscopes and imaging equipment. These include ground-borne vibration which was highly concerned due to a short distance away from a high- traffic road.
